Postumus, AE dupondius or sestertius. Probably Cologne mint. IMP CM CASS LAT POSTVMVS PF AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. HER DEVSONIEMS (both letters S retrograde), Hercules standing facing, looking right, holding palm branch and resting left hand on club. de Witte 81a, Corbeny hoard 15. Very rare. Contributed by Friso Langen, April 2022. Pierre Bastien, the author of the Corbeny hoard writes "... the graphical errors in the legend would at first seem to place it amongst the imitations. (However) ..the reverse of this sestertius is from the same reverse die as Paris 4953.. the obverse of which, is from the same die as the Cohen 249 example in the Dölling collection. This triple affiliation of the dies therefore confirms the official origin of this coin, the reverse of which was apparently engraved by a clumsy and probably illiterate engraver."
