Military mint on the Limes border. 132-136 AD. Obv: HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, laureate head right. Rev: RESTITVTORI GALLIAE, Hadrian standing right, holding sceptre, raising up Gallia, kneeling left. Limes AE denarius of RIC 324; Sear 3534. Scarce. Military mints along the borders of the Roman empire used official dies to strike bronze denarii, because of, for example, the risk of storing large quantities of silver at the camp. "Limes" denarii were struck from the time of Hadrian until the time of Gordian III and are not to be confused with ancient imitations.
