ROMAN EMPIRE: Geta (AD 209-211). Orichalcum sestertius 
(29.55 gm). Rome, AD 211. P SEPTIMIVS GETA PIVS AVG 
BRIT, laureate head right / CONCORDIAE AVGG S C, 
Caracalla and Geta, in military dress and holding 
spears, standing facing one another and clasping right 
hands; Geta, on left, is crowned by Liber holding 
thyrsus, while Caracalla, on right, is crowned by 
Hercules holding club. BMCRE 232. Cohen 25 (corr.) (50 
Fr.). RIC 168a. 
Rare: this reverse type occurs in only three dies

Hercules and Liber were the patron deities of Septimius' 
home town, Leptis Magna in Africa. This reverse hopes for harmony 
between the two brothers after they became joint emperors when 
Septimius died in York in February 211.
