**** MODERN CAST FAKE **** ROMAN EMPIRE. Didia Clara (daughter of Julianus). Fake AE sestertius. Rome, ca. April–May AD 193. DIDIA CLA—RA AVG, draped bust right. HILAR TEMPO (sic) around, S—C in fields, "Hilaritas" - but a male figire standing left, holding long palm branch and cornucopiae. NOTE THAT THE FIGURE ON THE REVERSE IS A BEARDED MALE, WITH ODD DRAPERY. CLEARLY THE FAKER DID NOT REALISE THAT THE PERSON ON THE REVERSE IS A WOMAN. In addition the way that the person is standing is very peculiar - chest facing front, right shoulder lowered plus the fact that the reverse legend is missing its final R. Another giveaway is the front of Clara's face with its stub nose and elderly features. FAKE OF RIC 20; Cohen 4. Offered as genuine for the price of 1,000 Euros on a European auction site in 2013. It was later resold by Bolaffi Spa - Auction 26, Lot 1235 in June 2015, also with an estimate of 1,000 Euros.
