FL IVL CONSTAN TIVS PERP AVG Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right.
GLORIA REI PVBLICAE Roma, holding spear and Constantinopolis 
holding sceptre, foot on prow, seated, the former facing, 
the latter turned left, between them supporting a shield 
inscribed VOT XX MVLT XXX.
Roma's right hand at the side of the shield so uses the RIC 81 dies.

The high weight of this piece is distant from the standard
solidus of 1/72 of a pound (c. 4.47g), especially 
considering its unusual degree of wear. Medallions of this 
mint and reign are the aureus (1/60th of a pound = c. 5.6g); 
sesqui-solidus, (1/48th of a pound = c. 6.8g), and double 
solidii (1/36th of a pound = c. 9.0g), 4 1/2, and 9 solidii. All are rare. Presumably the multiples were struck for 
presentation to senior officials. This example probably weighed about 6.8 grams as made.
