     Caracalla, AE heavy as (or dupondius) (13.36g) Rome Mint, 209 AD,
     ANTONINVS PIVS AVG Laureate and lightly bearded head right,
     slight drapery on far shoulder / PONTIF TR P XII COS III Victory
     standing right, foot on helmet, engraving shield on palm with
     very weak VO [T]IS X, S C in fields. RIC448b(inscription on field
     not noted). Good VF, dark brown patina, centered toward 5:00 /
     1:00, losing about a third of the dotted border, on an unusually
     heavy and broad flan.

     Laureate head dupondii were last officially issued under Hadrian,
     but similar issues after this date are known. This very heavy as
     may be the result of a dupondius flan, struck with as dies. If
     the metal is yellow, this would be confirmed. The legend on the
     shield is barely visible, and would be the first portion to wear.
     The date of this issue fits with Caracalla's VOTA X coinage.
