Freeman & Sear - Gemini I, Session 1, Lot: 189 CILICIA. Celenderis. Ca. 405 BC or later. Silver stater (10.72 gm). Nude horseman riding sidesaddle on mount galloping right, holding whip in right hand and reins in left / KELE-N, he-goat kneeling right, head reverted, T in exergue. Cf. SNG Paris 71 and SNG Levante Suppl. 10 (legend arranged differently, TL in exergue. Nearly EF. Staters of Celenderis with the horseman facing right were represented in the Celenderis hoard of 1957, see Kraay, NC 1962, pp. 1-15. Kraay dated burial of the hoard after 410, and probably around 400. Neither this variety nor its obverse die was represented in the hoard, indicating a date of issue after the hoard's closure, probably in the early 4th century, somewhat later than ca. 425-400 proposed by Levante for the comparable pieces cited above.
